Dog bite - bruising and swelling

Posted , 4 users are following.

Evening guys,

yesterday i was bitten by a dog, quite agressively in a few places along one arm and hand. It did break the skin in a couple of places, not huge cuts and no severe bleeding but definite puncture wound.

ive always bruised very easily anyway, so it does look bad, but the area of bruising on my hand is still quite swollen over 24 hours later and i feel like my wrist is aching as a result if this. On occaision it also feels like my arm is aching slightly.

Is this just from general bruising or do you think it may be infected? Should i see a doctor?

    Hi,

    1. you need to be seen today. Go to the ER
    2. file a police report, if it is not your dog.

Dog bite could lead to local wound infection, tetanus, or rabies that could come from either the saliva of biter, skin flora of victim, or the environment. ... This highlights the need for active prophylaxis in all but the most trivial of wounds and passive prophylaxis in high risk wounds.

Yes LemonyCurd you should see a doctor because your skin has been punctured. Is it your dog or do you know who owns the dog? You need to know if the dog had had all of it's shots. That is important for your doctor to know. This bite could turn out to be very serious. I hope not. Good luck.

Hello, I agree with the other posts above, but also you could try this for the bruising and pain...HEPARIN GEL, you can get it at any chemist. It will reduce the swelling and bruising. Just apply gently several times a day, you only need a little. Rest your arm for a day or two and all should be well..Good Luck. Gloria

Hi, geez that looks nasty, I agree with the other people who posted. What you could try is Heparin Gel bought over the counter at most chemists, it has worked for me and for my patients. An alternative idea is this....crush 4 aspirin tablets ( only aspirin ) add a few drops of water and mix into a paste...spread on the bruised area and bandage, keep it on overnight and then check the next day, the swelling and bruising should have started to heal. Repeat if necessary. Aspirin is so good for lots of things, especially topical inflammation. Hope you will feel better soon..Hugs...Gloria
