Hey to all
Someone talked to me today about CBD Oil Cannaidiol Yes...a derivative of cannabis
The same report studied CBD use for general chronic pain. Researchers compiled the results of multiple systematic reviews covering dozens of trials and studies. Their research concluded that there is substantial evidence that cannabis is an effective treatment for chronic pain in adults.
A separate study in the Journal of Experimental Medicine supports these results. This research suggests that using CBD can reduce pain and inflammation.
The researchers also found that subjects were not likely to build up a tolerance to the effects of CBD, so they would not need to increase their dose continually.
They noted that cannabinoids, such as CBD, could offer helpful new treatments for people with chronic pain.
As of what I have read so far, I am thinking of continuing to wean myself down to 7.5 , 2.5 down every two weeks. at 7.5 is when the pain comes back. Then I might try this rather than increasing my dosage again.
Anyone else heard of this?

There hasn't been much discussion on here because it used to get censored but recently they have allowed some posts. There has been a lot of discussion on the HealthUnlocked PMRGCAuk forum - there seem to have been mixed results. Some got nothing, some slept better, some felt they were able to reduce their pred. Almost everyone commented how expensive it was!
2.5mg every 2 weeks at that level is a lot.

I’m trying hard to lose weight but it’s a slow process due to the pred!
People say that using steroids doesn’t add weight but I’m following a strict eating programme and either gain a pound or lose a pound!!
I’m eating loads of fruit, which is full of sugar! Should I cut down on the fruit!
I don’t eat bread and I have small portions of potato and pasta!

In the past when people have said "But I'm eating low carb and not losing weight" a bit of digging has resulted in them confessing they are eating loads of fruit! Which as you say is full of sugar - and while it is "healthy" sugar, it is still carbs.
I don't lose weight until I get below about 30g net carbs - and you can get to that with an apple and a banana, never mind all the veggies you want to eat. Berries are best for low sugar but even they must be rationed. Have a look at Dietdoctor to see which veg and fruit are better or worse in the context of low carb.

Anyone who says pred doesn't add weight has never been on them for long enough! Or they were VERY VERY lucky.

Whether you try adding an alternative or not, you still shouldn't taper your pred by more than 10% at a time. Only pred will provide you with the cortisol you need as your adrenals slowly start to produce some as your dose becomes lower. But it will be interesting to hear whether you find the CBD helpful. Best wishes!

Margaret, I use a CBD sslve for my diabetic neuropathy in my feet. I think it helps some. I have not tried any orally. 🙂

Hi Margaret, I have been using CBD oil for several months and believe it has allowed me to get past my previous stumbling block at 4mg of prednisone. I have had a lot of stress and that has been my trigger in the past. I use an oil with a ratio of 1:25 THC to CBD so no phycogenic affect.
i don’t have any PMR pain to speak of so can’t answer to that. Also, I think it’s important to mention that high CBD oils, tinctures or capsules are used for anxiety (in addition to pain and inflammation) which may have helped with my ability to decrease the Pred.
It is expensive here as well but I am feeling so much better it is worth the cost. I am fortunate that I can afford it for now.
I agree with the others that you are reducing very quickly. After 5+ years and a few flares with PMR I use a modified DSNS method and never decrease unless I am feeling well (as I can be).
We are all a little different in our management of this disorder and I hope you find your own way soon.

Thanks...at this point cost isn't as important to me as getting off of these dang steroids!

I think you may have to learn to become friends with at least a low dose of pred. I don't think anything available at present removes the need for at least some pred. Even Actemra isn't guaranteed to do it for everyone and its potential side effects are far worse than those of low dose pred - and it costs a small fortune when it is available.
Bear in mind that once you get to 7.5mg pred it is no more corticosteroid than your body would produce in the form of cortisol - less pred will mean more cortisol being made so the total corticosteroid doesn't fall. You'd be dead without it - it is essential for your body to function.
Being patient and careful with reduction and not denying the signs of a flare will mean you take far less pred in the long run than if you force reductions, allow a flare to develop and have to go back to a high dose again and again.
