Don't the docs know the difference between different anxiety?

If a patient has severe, dark and heavy anxiety, antihistamines like hydroxyzine wont help at all since they seem to be only effective vs light and aching anxiety, yet they seem adamant on trying hydroxyzine before something that can actually relieve some of the pain. Are they not taught that anxiety can have different shape and form and what medication is effective for said anxiety?

I know how you feel. It's incredibly frustrating. The only anxiety drug that helps me is benzodiazepines which are now, after years and years of use, been determined to be "bad" drugs bc they are addictive. well, for some ppl, they are the only thing that will even come close to alleviating very deep and traumatic anxiety. I realize they are highly addictive, but so are tons of other drugs, yet they don't have the "controlled substance" label. even alcohol is completely legal, yet it has the same highly addicting traits. it makes zero sense. I have been on benzodiazepines for almost 2 years bc it's literally the only thing that even makes a dent in my anxiety. I'm convinced many ppl have a GABA deficiency, yet all they give are drugs to boost SEROTONIN. it makes NO SENSE. I've tried the antihistamines and those are a joke. I am going to start massage therapy soon, but it's not cheap! so I truly understand your frustration.

assume you are based in uk. until your anti deps are working, hydroxyzine isnt going to cut the mustard. benzos would be perfect, but they are reluctant to pescribe them. they will wait until your anti deps start working, or if your anxiety gets out of control, ie pre breakdown, then they will pescribe benzos. benzos work immediately. they dont like pescribing them, as you become dependent on them. sometimes needs must. id have ended up in hospital, if it wasnt for diazepam.

I HONESTLY dont think the primary docs are taught much on anxiety. thats why they seem to just order the same things all the time..

the docs that have way more knowledge on those meds for anxiety and depression are psychiatrists.

Are they the Psychiatrists who say what do you expect me to do about it , Just get over it!.

no, there are those type out there but there are also some great ones. Mine was very knowledgeable about the different meds out there for anxiety and depression and he followed my course of treatment to make sure I was on the right medication. The good docs know these meds really well and are willing to help you.

hello, from what i can tell, benzos shouldnt be given on their own. theyre given at low doses with anti deps, so the anti dep takes over from the benzo, and you wean off them, or you continue on the low dose, along with the anti dep. they are much easier to come off when taking anti deps. trying to come off benzos on their own is EXTREMELY difficult. long term use of a benzo without an anti dep, can lead to depression. you need to go back to your dr or pysc and try another anti dep, possibly one with some sedation, taken at night, as they are easier to tolerate. its the start up of an anti dep thats the hardest thing, until you get over the initial increase in anxiety they usually cause. starting an anti dep on a very low dose, (lower than recommended) and increasing the dose very slowly, by small amounts, with long intervals between dose increases, will give you an easier time of adjusting to them, and greater chance of success. i take a low dose of diazepam, 2.5mg x 3 times a day. my anti dep has been working for 10 months now, but i know it would be very hard to stop the diazepam. hope some of this helps. im on a high dose of anti dep, and things are good. i got to my current anti dep level, by increasing by half of the lowest dose increase each time.

drs and pyschs usually give doses of anti deps, and increase them, by guidelines from the manufacture. the dose increases are too much, too soon, for a lot of people.
