Dont know what to do now....

I just finished a round of cipro 500 and flagyl 500. I don't feel like the diverticulitis is gone completely. Still have a spot on my upper left side that hurts sometimes and then way down low...seems to make me want to go urinate alot. I called the doctor. He said too soon for antibiotics again. He wanted me to come in but funds are low and I just did not see the point of going in when they wont give me antibiotics anyway. Feel sure they want a cat scan...but then again the hospital wants my percentage right then and there. Dont have it now. So I guess the only option I really have is to see if the pain or fever gets worse and go to the ER. Any ideas?

If fever is gone, you dont need more antibiotics. Lits of rest, light diet. Try slippery elm, probiotics and enzymes. Lots of rest.

Heating pad on area. Priobiotic and no fiber.  Light diet.  Soft foods.  It takes time to heal.  You’re very aware of pain so it is probably nothing.  Give it a few more days and if no better maybe you should go.  Heat usually helps me and try not to worry.  Do you have Bentyl?  It will relax the intestines.  Maybe he’ll give a script for that.  It helps with spasms and cramps.  🌸😘

So sorry to hear you are still in pain, remember the antibiotics make you feel worse also so it does take a while for things to settle. Keep eye on temp, and no blood in stools, fluids Tylenol and heating pad. Rest and de-stress if ya can. Soft small portions of food. Prayers sent your way for a peaceful night. 🌺🌸

Thank you so much. I've pretty much rested the day away and it does feel good. I just seem so exhausted all of the time. Eggs have been my friend. I appreciate all the input I can get!

Yeah the antibiotics wipe you out, takes time to feel normal again. Are you on probiotics, and did they check your vitamins D, B12, and iron? I never got a fever with my Diverticulitis, so I just had Dr check my blood work every week for inflammation or infection. And never had blood in stools just mucus, and diarrhea. Dr say after your infection is cleared you still can have pain with Diverticulosis for quite awhile after, just takes time. And get colonoscopy soon as you heal. For now, Tylenol and heating pad plenty of fluids broths soft food , I keep a food journal so can find out what foods cause discomfort. But if your fever goes over 101 and your nauseous or vomiting go to ER. Sometimes it takes more than 1 round of antibiotics. Best wishes you feel better today. 🌺🌸🙏

Cipro is a very strong antibiotic, it's a member of the fluoroquinolone family and the FDA have just updated warnings yet again about the possible severe side effects. It is often used for DD infections but I strongly suggest if you DO have to have another antibiotic that you ask for a different one, and make sure it's not one of the other fluoroquinolones (e.g. Levaquin).  The is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic discussion here on this site if you want to find out more about it.

Tylenol (paracetamol)  is ok for pain relief but please don't take Advil (Ibuprofen) which is a NSAID - this group of painkillers can actually kick off Cipro side effects!  We often think these pills are all the same but they certainly aren't!

I do hope your current pain and problems resolve soon and I can't add anything to the advice already given here - except you should take probiotics (capsules or live yoghurt) every day as your poor gut needs them to heal and the Cipro will have killed off all your good guys along with the bad ones.  Doctors never tell you this!

I couldn't have said it better I've been taking Cipro and Flagyll 30 out of the last 45 days and I am wiped out! Surgurys Tuesday morning I did colonoscopy last Wednesday and even after all antibiotics I still have infection Thanks for making us sufferers more aware of the chaos antibiotics can cause I tried to find the section of antibiotics you mentioned that is on this forum but I am not real computer literate and haven't found it yet

Great info, I too could not find the spot to learn more on drugs, You mentioned. For me I developed Diverticulitis in Feb then also got abcess. Was on antibiotics for a month. Developed anxiety and panic attacks along with it all. All the diff drugs they had me on really messed me up. After many stool tests, blood work, Endoscopy, and colonoscopy final diagnosis Severe Diverticulosis (3spots) sigmoid, had 6 polyps removed and a scrape of colon for biopsy. All normal. But then developed SIBO slightly elevated Hydrogen SIBO so they put me on Augmentin, which made me sick, bloating, gas, nausea and constipation. Not diarrhea so weird. I’m off them 2 days now but still fill icky! Ugh how long does it take to get out of system? And I will start probiotics tomorrow cuz with SIBO not to take probiotics while on the antibiotics. Just courious
