Dosage of prednisone

Has anyone seen withdrawal effects going from 15mg. to 10mg. I weaned slowly, took about 7-days to reduce the 5mg. I have very bad swelling of the feet, ankles, lower legs. Dr's have given me about every test you can have, all came back ok. They stopped my Amoldopine, high blood press., from prednisone, last week I was on it for 3-years. but the swelling remains. Dr's are hoping it is one of these meds. because I've had such good luck taking Ibrutinib. This wa's prescribed 6-years ago for my very rare, Non Hodgkins Lymphoma, Waldenstrom''s Macroglobulnemia, WM, Thanks so much...

    Hi Reggie,

I don't know anything about most of your ailments, but, the 5mg drop of pred in 7 days, seems like it was too fast. A slower taper might be in order.

Hi There, do I understand you to say you "weaned slowly took about 7-days to reduce the 5mg". That is not slow. Most physicians will recommend 1mg per month. If you look at the DSNS methods on this blog, people will discuss a target of about 10% reduction per month with a very structured reduction schedule.

I reduced from 15mg to 3mg over the course of 18 months. I am stuck at 3 mg and can't go lower without recurrent PMR symptoms.

Not sure about the swelling symptoms. Most here talk about side effects of taking prednisone. I don't recall too many citing side effects from reduction other than PMR flareups.

    Best wishes.

Doing 5mg in one go, even over a week is far too fast.

hi reggie, I haven't been on this site in a few months--too much other medical. stuff happening all at once.

actually, I was recently dx'd with the lymphoma that you mentioned.......scared to death.

I was wondering if you wouldn't mind messaging me about how you're doing and what to expect.

    thanks, Lynda

Reggie, if you can hold together reducing that quickly you are the ROCKET MAN. Probably end up taking me 6 or 7 months or better! Good luck man, every time I rush, it right into a flare.🙂
