Double Bunionectomy

I had a double bunionectomy four weeks ago. My toes weren't broken, only bone shaved from both toe joints at the top, more than the side. Things are going really well.  Bandages were removed a week ago.  I am still walking on the outsides of my feet, which are really sore - a consequence from the bunions all these years I guess.  How can I correct this or will I need to see a podiatrist?  I've had very little information from the hospital, so not sure what to do.  Also I am struggling to fit into any shoes and wonder if it is much too early.  My feet dont appear to be swollen, but I wonder if underneath they still are.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Kind regards, Laura x

Try wearing socks on your feet at home at all times which helps walking on the sides of your feet. Other than that, a pair of thongs or jiffies. If you still have the surgical boot, please wear it over a sock which helps with balance. Previously I had a bunionectomy with me wearing the boot for 6 weeks then thongs for a year. Now I've had corrective surgery (Scarf/Akin Osteotomy) on the same foot and need to wear a special surgical wedged boot 24/7 for 6 weeks. (Yes I need to wear the bed at all times, even to bed) 12 stitches were removed last Wednesday. Please take care of yourself and keep off your foot as much as possible keeping it elevated. Best of luck Laura.

Hello everyone. I am in Australia. I had a double bunion surgery 3 mon ths ago. It has been very hard in recovery. I am having trouble with my right foot in particular the big toe is bending back towards my other toes so in doing this my second toe is very squashed and a little bone in that toe is bending upwards so all my other toes are now squashed. It feels like I am in a very very tight shoe all the time even when I dont have shoes or socks on. Had a check up with the spealist yesterday he wants me to give another 3 months to see if this improves. I am a little worried about waiting that long. Does anyone else have this problem. And what is Hammer toe surgery have you all had that done while having bunion surgery. Thank you for any advice.

Hi Jacqueline! Melanie here. I had bunion surgery three weeks ago as well. It feels like an eternity but I'm trying to take things moment by moment. I had my second foot done - my first was last spring - so I feel a little more confident about the whole process. It does get better and it's amazing how quickly I forgot about this time once my foot healed. I like to keep active as well, especially in the summer when there's so much to do, but I know that I'll be able to enjoy it all this time next year, and my time on the couch will be a distant memory. Have patience and hope the healing goes well.
