Double hip replacement imminent

I am so glad to have found this website. My operation is due 16th August and I am dreading it because I will be legless for a while ??. The nurse at the preoperative visit told me to stop taking hrt prior to the date of op and I am really suffering. The weather is clammy enough but my hot sweats on top of that are making me really miserable.....and I haven't had my op yet. ??

Thanks Bonnie. I think that I will also be up on a walker the following day but wondering whether perhaps I should have had them done individually and not both at the same time. 😞

I had both of mine replaced 8 weeks ago and so glad to have done both at the same time. I was up walking 2 days after op (was very dizzy 1 day post op so waited until day 2), it is very hard going and sometimes gets you down but will be totally worth it in the long run. You can do this, all the best!

I had bi-lateral done 2 years ago. Difficult at the time but further on have to say best decision ever plus only one recovery & not stressed about having to repeat the experience. Good luck you will be fine & for all you double hoppers - hip hop hooray??

I'm not too sure why you have been told to stop your HRT.  I was told that it was ok to continue with my HRT - for which I was truly thankful.

    Where are you based?

I am in Enfield North London and was told that I should have stopped taking them 3 months ago because of risk of blood clots.

Isn't it interesting that each hospital has differing protocols. My hospital (Sussex) wasn't bothered about me being HRT at all, and I specifically raised the issue.

i just got home 1 hr ago, only 1 hip (posterior) replaced.  I was in the hospital for approx 30 hrs.  i was up & walking about 5 hrs later.  i am a bit tired & my hip feels a bit stiff, but otherwise I am fine.

Good Luck, you will be as good as new soon !!!

      Thank you !!

I had my other hip done in Jan 2013, and rehabbed hard, I will do the same thing with this one.  I expect to have a perfect recovery as I did with my other hip !
