double mono?

Found out yesterday from blood work that I have both EBV and CMV. I’m 13 days with symptoms.  Started out with sore throat, headache and achy all over. One thing I’ve noticed is that the symptoms seem to “jump” around.  For example my head will hurt for a while then it stops and I’ll start having liver pain, that stops then I’ll  get the stiff neck. Has anyone else here had this jumping around and have had the diagnosis with both virus?  Any advice will be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi... yes I have had symptoms that would last for a week and then go away while a new one started. If you click on my user name it will take you to a page that lists all my discussions, you can search back to the beginning for the complete list. It is ridiculously long.  But take comfort that this seems common.

Thank you for the reply. I’m really having a hard time as I’m a VERY active person. I’m in the gym everyday and for work I’m a massage therapist. So being on the sofa is a BIG challenge.  I suppose it’s a one day at a time thing. :-(((

      Hi Tabitha,

I can very much sympathize with you on being an active and go go person. At 25 I was working out intensely every second day, graduated with second degree from uni, started my career, purchased home... to be stuck with debilitating fatigue on the couch and be physically unable to even grocery shop at one point was so difficult for me... I felt like I lost every sense of who I was. I know it is hard when sitting around and passively living isn’t something you usually do. Today was my first day back at the gym after 6 months... I wanted to share with you because you’ll get back there too. Just prepare yourself mentally for slow progress, set backs, regression, and then more progress. You’re in my thoughts !

    Hi Tab,

So sorry to hear you have been hit with a double dose of this, that is awful and really hope you are feeling much better soon. Remember it's really important to get rest at this stage and don't panic if it takes a bit of time for full recovery, that can be normal but you definitely will get over it and will get better. Taking vitamins and herbs really helped me, a good strong multi-vitamin per day, high doses of Vitamin C (1000mg-3000mg per day), a B complex vitamin (for energy levels) and immune boosting herbs like siberian ginseng and echinicea.

But listening to your body and resting is so important right now!! Yes it can be normal for the symptoms to jump about, I found that too - hang in there and hope that things settle down and become more manageable very soon.

Good luck Tabitha, just make sure with the herbs and vitamins you're not going over the maximum daily allowance, and really hoping they can help give you a boost. Hang in there and thinking of you.
