Double vision

After developing cataracts I received symfony lenses about 6 weeks ago. I am concerned with my vision. I have developed double vision. My eyes don’t seem to be focusing properly together. On their own I am seeing very well in the distance and at present am using cheaters for reading. However the distance vision is not good when focusing with both eyes. I have made an appointment with my doctor but am wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Did you get Symfony lenses in both eyes 6 weeks ago?  Usually with cataract surgery there is a couple of weeks in between surgeries.  Were the lenses targeted for same distance?

Ususlly diplopia isn’t due to the lens but the procedure itself (needle placement or muscle injury).  It can also be caused when there is too much of a difference between the eyes however that is usual a result of full monovision with monofocal lenses. Have you had a post surgery exam by your opthamologist?  Did you mention the double vision?

There could be several reasons for this and you should ask your opthamologist to take a look and provide you with an explanation.

Yes I’ve had both eyes done two weeks apart with the last one about six weeks ago. I’ve been to my optometrist and will be seeing my surgeon in a few days. I’d like an idea of some questions to ask him.   I noticed a blurring after one week of the last surgery but didn’t think it was serious now it has developed into double vision.  Sometimes it is worse than other times I work hard at focusing and I have noticed a bit of improvement but I feel so disappointed.

Sorry you are experiencing this. How was your vision with just one eye operated?

    How old are you?

You could have possibly developed PCO which should be easy to fix.

Post capsular opacification.  Also called post cataract.
