Down to 5mgs at last!

Hi,

At last, I've made it to 5mgs!! As regulars know I am on the slowest reduction known to man or beast :monster: (nearest emoticon to a beast I could find!) I reduce just 1mg over a period of seven weeks, but 5mgs feels like a bit of a milestone! Its still going OK, very few setbacks so far. Went for my flu jab today and was offered a pneumonia jab as well. I say yes to everything. In the last six months I've had: mammogram, cervical smear, bowel screening, kidney function etc. etc. Passed them all with flying colours. If it wasn't for the PMR I could almost call myself healthy . I just feel I'm so lucky compared to my Mum and Dad's generation. I inherited my Dad's high blood pressure and cholesterol. His went untreated and he died as a result. Mine's just a daily tablet, regular check-ups and carry on as normal. Hope everyone has a good weekend.

    Hi LizzieEllen,

Well done on getting down to 5mgs :D . I seem to be stuck on 15 at present as every time I try to go to 14 my shoulders & knees object :x .

My rheumy reckons I will just have to taper over a longer time and agrees that its not worth coming down too quickly if it means more pain, as all of us on here know already  .

Have a lovely weekend & enjoy having less pills to swallow.

    Best wishes, Pauline.

Well done Lizzie Ellen and here's to getting down to nil :bubbly:

I'm on 7.5 and should have reduced to 7 on Wed. but the aches said no. My rate is 0.5 every 4 weeks, much the same as yours if my sums are right. At this rate I should be off by the Christmas after next.  that's supposed to show hope and realism. I know it will be a miracle if there are no holdups and glitches.

It's STILL raining here. No wonder I ache. Back to the woodburner. Best to all. BettyE

    Well done Lizzie Ellen

Patience is paying off !! I am down to 4.5 now I am on a a sort of gradual reduction I am trying for 1mg in about 6 weeks and will probably slow as I ( fingers crossed ) get lower I am feeling Ok at present I have now started my muscle rehabilitation classes which I am really enjoying I just feel generally more energetic Have had quite a few stresses this last few weeks Broken laptop and after getting new one wrong information from internet providorso was offline for 10 days also a few problems with my old horse and general agravations and I seem to have coped with extra stress fine so I am pleased after last winter !!

I was very impressed with a new dental hygenist I saw who asked about the steroids and said she was going to write to my Dr in case I needed a local anesthetic if she had to do any deep descaling ( I hope not !!!!)

Off to Valencia for a short break next weekend so looking forward to that

I shall catch up on what I have missed on the forum but hope everyone is doing well and has a good weekend ( First log fire of the winter tonight ) !!

    Best wishes

    Hi Lizzie Ellen

I can feel your delight! It seems as though you're going through a textbook reduction - well done! Are you still expecting to stay on the same reduction programme now that you have reached 5mgs or will you be slowing to the oft recommended 1mg every 3 months? Think your consultant must have had a crystal ball when she told you at the outset that you would be over it in 18 months! Best of luck with continuing successful reductions.

[b:38f1577900]Hi Mrs G[/b:38f1577900] ......and well done you, too! It's really good news weekend isn't it.

I also had some good news the other day when I passed a repeat field vision test having failed at another opticians the previous week. However, the new specs they've supplied for the computer are making everything slope down to the left so goodness knows what they've done - probably got the astigmatism in the wrong lens (it's happened before!)

Made the Christmas puds today - oh I can hear you all groan....yes it's Christmas in about 9 weeks!

    Happy weekend everyone!

    Hi,

[b:2b20611873]Pauline[/b:2b20611873]: Slow but sure is certainly working for me although I was able to go 15mgs/12.5mgs/11mgs/10mgs to start with and then went on to the 1mg over a seven week period regime, so its such a shame that even down from 15 to 14mgs is causing you pain. Hope you work out a reduction that works for you.

[b:2b20611873]Betty[/b:2b20611873]: Yes, we do seem to be going at about the same rate, I thought I was the only one doing the tortoise route! If I keep going like this it'll be next June when I'm steroid free, but I haven't made that a goal. Just get as low as I can and still be comfortable. I'm taking heed of what Mrs. O said and looking into the possibility of going even slower.

[b:2b20611873]Mrs G[/b:2b20611873]: I seem to be handling stress better at the moment, my shoulders aren't up round my ears!!! Except when it comes to the computer of course - aghhhh. Would love to hear about Valencia, our home is Spain in only two hours away but we haven't made it there yet. Didn't feel up to it until this summer and then it was far too hot. Son-in-Law went last year and loved it. Buen viaje 8)

[b:2b20611873]Mrs O[/b:2b20611873] I'm listening to what you're saying about a more gradual reduction now I'm on 5mgs. I realize the percentages get bigger and I didn't discuss this with my Consultant last month. She's happy for me to make whatever adjustments I feel would be good for me so I'm going to have a re-think! Pleased to hear your field test went OK. They make me sweat. I've had retinal imaging done today and had to have drops in my eyes, I look like something out of a horror movie with big, big black pupils  . Lost my brother to a (rare) optic melanoma last year so being a bit of a hypochondriac in that direction just now. All fine.

Phew! Is that everyone? Enjoy the rest of the weekend. Off to put my feet up now
