Doxazosin gives me a daily headache, how long can I keep taking paracetamol and Ibruprofen?

I have been on Doxazosin for 5 months, I started on 4mg and now i'm on 8mg, ever since I started this medication I have had a headache daily which in the beginning resulted in a migraine several times a week which meant taking time off work.

The result of this is that the doctor prescribed 40mg Amytriptaline nightly for the migraines and now thinks the cause of the headaches is sleep apnea, he will not have it that its the doxazosin, he just says its good for the prostate in men over 50 so stay on it.

I take paracetamol and Ibruprofen daily but how long can I do this?

I'm now looking for a new doctor for a second opinion.

I was on Doxazosin for 3 months and stopped taking in November 13. I was suffering headaches , aches and pains, breathing difficulties etc. All the side effects they list . Told the Doc and also he would not have it. But I insisted and would not take anymore. Still now I suffer coughing and sneezing, 4 months now. Doc. again says nothing to do with Doxazosin. If I was you I would ask him for alternative.

    Hi vsb

Same old story, they didn't believe me either. I had to stop the Doxazosin for periods and prove it, I wrote it down so its documented. then they have no choice.

I had the prostate story thrown at me too. They always commented about mystery blood in my urine, even sent me to a specialist who found no problems. Take a look at the side effects list "blood in urine". Also I had urgency to pass water which was becoming a nuisance. What does Doxazosin do relax the muscles around the prostate and make it easier to pass water, hang on, we need muscles to to hold water in, then to pass it out at appropriate times. When I stopped Doxazosin the urgency went and my flow rate which the specialist said was low, visibly doubled.

Blood pressure pills mess with your circulation permanently I now have severe chilblains and painfully cold feet, now diagnosed as Raynaurd's Disease so they have prescribed Nifedipine 5mg 3 times a day, it helps the cold feet but, guess what, head aches are starting including migraine spells. Nifedipine works the same as Doxazosin.

Some of us are intolerant of certain types of medication, that is a fact.

If I wanted to stop taking Doxazosin should I cut down the dose over time or is it ok to just stop taking it??

    A home BP monitor helps.

In my case I had been on it a long time, I was taking two different BP pills so I could monitor my BP and drop Doxazosin for a few days and prove that the headaches eased each time.

I think you must keep yourself in the hands of the doctors and get them to change your medication, although its amazing that they just double doses when they lose their effect and totally change the type used in one day.
