drainage pipe site opened 6 weeks post surgery

my daughter had a TKA and 6 weeks post surgery the drainage site is still open and not closing. Inside the hole I see a small black spot. Should I be worried? Could this be necrosis. Seeing doc tommorrow? No pain or swelling or redness.

When was the drain removed? Seems a long time for the drain site to still be open if she's 6 weeks post op. It's one of those things where you need to see it before making an opinion, just let the doctor see it tomorrow, good luck x

I totally agree with Snoozy. I assume she's seeing the orthopods not her GP.

Let us know how she gets on.

Saw the ortho who checked and said no necrosis (relieved). He is worried about the slow healing of the drain site . He is giving it another week if still not closed then he will do debriment of the site and suture. Thanks all for the support

Some drains do leave quite a large hole when they are taken out but as I said they are usually healed up within a week, maybe the black bit is preventing the closure in some way. Anyway I hope it's put your mind at rest x

So pleased there is no necrosis.

Let's hope the wound starts closing now.
