Dressing

My LTHR was June 17.  I will see the surgeon this coming Thursday to remove the staples and replace the dressing.  I am using the 'Aqua"? Dressing that is waterproof and you can shower with.

It is starting to curl a bit around the upper and lower edges.  I think I won't get it wet between now and Thursday but is that something I should be concerned about?  I can't really get a very good look at it without twisting.  I live in a condo building and there is a nurse on my floor.  I wonder if I should have her have a look at it.

Any comments?

Thanks,

Leslie

    Hi Leslie,

If the nurse wouldn't mind I'd have her look at it. It's probably alright. I was lucky desolving stitches and glue mine came off 7 days after at home and left open . Surgeon said shower won't hurt it. They are all different. Hope all is well I'm 19 days out walking around inside and out. Good luck and don't forget to listen to your body. Red

thanks, Red.  I wish I had had those dissolving stitches.  But I don't....I took a better peek in the mirror at the dressing and I think it's ok but I might have this nurse friend take a peek.      Such good advice to listen to your own body.  I'm workin on it!

What type of pain meds did they give you? If you don't mind me asking. I had tramadol, oxys, and meythacarbonal for mussel. I didn't take the oxys at all. And Tylenol. Day 19 for me of all the pain meds except the Tylenol walking without anything in the house and just a cane outside. Posterior rthp Regards Red

Red -- I was given Oxycodone and told to use it til I felt like I didn't need it.  Then I was to start taking Tramadol.  While taking Oxycodone, I was also prescribed Tylenol -- but told to drop the Tylenol when I started Tramadol (because evidently Tramadol already contains Tylenol).   I am day 16.  I was told to use the indoor walker until I see the surgeon which will be July 7.  I feel like I could use a cane but I'm going to stick with the walker.    It's my left hip.  .

    Hi Leslie:

I had a similar situation with the dressing starting to curl around the edges and did what you did. I didn't get it wet for the few days I was waiting to get my staples removed. All was fine when the doctor removed the staples and changed the dressing. Still, I would agree that it doesn't hurt to have your nurse friend have a look and check it anyway.

    Have a good day.

Thanks, Cathy.  That is what is so great about this forum.  There is always someone with a similar situation.  Love it.  Thanks.

Hi Leslie....wow that is neat you can shower! I must have had an entirely different kind of dressing because I was told absolutely not, no shower just sponge bath until the staples were removed. I was so happy when they took those out, oh how good that shower felt....Hugs...Barb

    Hi Leslie,

Your issue has probably been resolved already ...

My dressing was changed every other day by home health nurse - I was not allowed to take a shower after 1st THR, but could take on right after 2nd one - go figure !!! same hospital, same staff etc ---

Good luck - it'll be over before you know it ..

    big warm hug

    renee
