Drinkin on sertraline...

Hi i am new to this and was just asking for advise. My name is kelly & im 30.

I started sertraline 50mg about 2 weeks ago! I went out for a few drinks on saturday but ended up turning into binge drinking session. Totally blacked out, can hardly remember anything from the night. Today is tuesday & im still feelin rough.. depressed & anxious😖 Ive took it that its not a good idea to consume alot of alcohol while on these meds! Any good tips on how to help this go away asap please??

Ive previously came off fluxotine last october after bring on them around three years, because of drinking.. they made me crave alcohol & i didn't no went to stop! This was causing lots of problems for me & my family.. so i weaned off them.

I wasnt to bad at first but then BANG it was bk.. worse around periods as i suffer really bad pms!

I went back the docs as i was struggling to cope with day to day life, looking after my two children who both have a diagnosis of ADHD. He put me on these(sertraline) and said they mite not be same as the fluxotine made me!

Im so scared that they will..

Any other people experienced alcohol cravings etc while on these type of meds? Baring in mind i never drank for 2-3 years before starting anti depressants.

Any advise will be greatly appreciated 😉??

Hi Kelly, I'm not sure if mine is related to the sertraline or just to my mood, but I've been on sertraline for 5 months, and on 100mg of it for the past 5 weeks, and recently I have been craving alcohol a bit when I never really hae done in the past. I don't know if it's related to that though or if it's just coincidence. Also I've never really found it to interact badly with drink x

Kelly, best to ask whoever prescribed the drug if alcohol is OK. My experience is that I crave Brandy, however I have made the decision to not 'drink' whilst on this drug (I am taking about four other drugs for other medical conditions but could drink a bit when just on these).

All the best as you sound as if you have a lot to deal with.

    Sincerely

    P

Thanks guys.. i explained to the last gp who prescribed me sertraline how fluoxetine made me regarding the alcohol.. and the things i would do while under the influence., which related in me havin to come off them. he said even though there from the same group (ssri's) these may not make me the same! & to give the a try! I really didnt want to go back on them & undo the hard work of weaning off my last lot after 3 years, but doc basicly said try these or put up with the way i was feeling. Which included me just cryin everyday & not knowin why.. no interested in anything... finding it hard to look after my children.. finding it hard to socialise so on & so on! I just feel so fed up😢 Cant stop thinking about my situation & its making me feel really anxious.

Take your med like you usually do. It will take a few days to build up to regular level in your system. Drink lots and lots of water. And try to sleep it off your bad feelings. Also, I never once craved alcohol while on this med and I have been on and off it for about 2 decades. Take care.
