Drinking 9.5% wine instead of vodka

Hi..I am an alcoholic & my usual tipple is vodka ..trying to stay off that. For about last 10 days I have been drinking approx 3 or 4 large glasses of Rose wine which is 9.5%.  Does anyone know if I would be ok just stopping this as it seems low alcohol volume..had problem one time before when I suddenly stopped drinking vodka but had been drinking it heavily for over a month. Don't feel much effect from the Rose..but any advice welcome..would I be better weaning off it even tho it's so low. At the moment I'm happy to drink my 3 to 4 large glasses a day but just need to know if I stop taking it what can I expect?

The best thing to do, Cherry, is to attempt to stop, but have some rose available in case you get physical withdrawal symptoms (shakiness, sweating, anxiety). You must not let those withdrawal symptoms continue. If they do occur, you need to drink in order to stop them.

If you suffer physical withdrawal symptoms, you need some medication to help you to detox safely.

It really depends on the alcohol level you are taking, compared to when you drinking vodka (you don't say how much vodka you were drinking) so it is difficult to estimate what the effect will be on you.

    Good luck! smile

Hi Paul..thanks for your reply. I haven't started to cut down on the Rosé yet..still having about 3 large glasses a day. But this level of alcohol is an awful lot less than when I was drinking vodka..I would probably on a good day have had 4 or 5 large vodkas a day but many times much more than that.

HI Cheryl. Paul is right and be careful if you have get very heavy withdrawal symptoms. It is certainly hard to stop drinking but best to try if you have the courage. Best of luck to you!

Thanks for your reply Claus..I did get very bad withdrawals one time before when I stopped vodka suddenly but I had been drinking it very heavily every day for over a month..probably at least a half bottle a day ..that's why I feel the few glasses of Rosé is a much lower level of alcohol

well done. What do you think you can achieve this year? Are brave enough to set yourself new targets? Perhaps awards to yourself with snacks, cakes or anything non alchoholic you fancy?
