drinking on sertraline

Posted , 3 users are following.

So I went out last night with the family and had rather too many drinks.

Which I now completely regret.

Never in my life have I been woken up from a deep sleep by a panic/anxiety attack.

From out of the blue I was shocked into awakening by the overwhelming feeling of dread. And for the rest of the day I have felt so anxious and awful.

Never again, this has been a huge set back for me.

Well Alice, some of us have to learn the hard way right? I have. Yeah, when we are on a powerful brain medication, we need to be very careful. Brain meds scare me, so I did not care what I had to give up, because I need help with depression and anxiety and I weighed it out.

Sure hope you will feel better soon and try not to be too hard on yourself for the choices you made.

    Hugs

Hi Alice my pharmscist and doc said it was fine to have a few drinks just not over the top but not because of interaction but as alcohol is a depressant but mine is more anxiety. Before I was even on tablets I sometimes woke feeling panicky as my heart was beating faster. And if u were worried about drinking and being on medication that could have triggered it too. I started on sertraline in oct and didn't have a drink until middle of January as was worried this year and have been fine. Not loads but a few glasses of wine. My hangovers were getting horrendous anyway and I hate feeling sick. Did u have loads? It's not the medication causing the anxiety but the worrying about it probably. And my hangovers caused me to be anxious before medication too. Once this has gone u will be fine I promise x

I was out with friends on Saturday for a few drinks, I think I had too many, I was home for 8, ill was fine when out in company but don't recall much after I got home, fell asleep on couch and my daughters told me some of what I'd been up to, nothing bad just funny things I was doing and saying. Looks like alcohol and sertraline don't mix.
