Hi there
i had a very low car and at 6 weeks post op felt anxious about driving it its also a manual....so i went off and got a SUV however i can now get into my car no problem which i have given to my 21year old, im keeping the suv lol. It took me to around 16 or so weeks to drive my other vehicles.

I'm at 24 weeks now. The recovery has been brilliant and I can do almost everything I want/need now - including getting in/out of both my car and my husband's and driving both. But both have pretty high seats. When we had a hire car recently it was much lower to the ground and it was still surprisingly hard to get in/out. I was OK driving once I had got in. So I think the sports car might have to wait a bit longer...

Hi Geoffrey,
I too have a Sports Car, an Alfa Romeo Spider.....it is parked up in my garage at the moment in Spain....I too was wondering the same thing, a couple of weeks ago. I am 8 weeks post op, but 2 people did mention they found that after about 10 weeks they were just fine. One mentioned that due to the large door opening it was much easier than getting into his Wife's Renault, and he found it much easier than he expected. Passenger side no problem for me, will extend my Husbands chauffeuring me for a few more weeks then give it a go! Let me know how you get on please 😃

Yes, guess also maybe quicker if your left hip was operated on...a friend invalidated her car insurance as she drove too soon, and could not manage an emergency stop !! something some people totally forget strangely enough !!

I checked with my insurance company as I felt it was a good idea to let the know. They were happy with six weeks with a manual.
