Driving and expected pain?

Posted , 7 users are following.

I'll be driving very shortly and am wondering about what types of pain should I expect after  R THR. I't been almost 3 months now and since my hubby has been chauffeuring me around, I haven't really thought about it.

Will I have groin pain or outer thigh pain?

Any ideas to minimize pain would be greatly appreciated.

I hope it didn't prevent you from getting to your destination. I'm just worried that I'll be in so much pain that I won't be able to drive home once I'm out.

Try very short distances at first, or take a passenger. I would have thought that the advice would be not to drive if in real pain

I think it depends on how you sit and how much you move muscles that have not been used for a while. At 11 weeks I have been driving fairly short distances, not real pain but butt muscles and front of thigh a bit achy. Had right hip replacement and drive a manual car. Had to adjust seat position so that at rest nothing "pulled"

Hi, I 've been driving since 7 weeks, incl one 200 mile round trip.

i had left hip replaced so it uses the clutch a lot. No real probs with hip , it's the other muscles, thigh, calf , back, building up that I've had probs with. I'm intending to drive our campervan, with a heavy clutch, for 4 hrs to Cornwall next week so we'll see what happens. By then I'll be St 11 weeks.

Hi Miele --- ot is the getting in and out of the car that is (still) challenging - I have a smaal, low seat car - I put a cushion wrapped in a trash bag on the seat which makes it easer to slide - Good advice about going with someone first on a short drive - and really, don't drive if you still have pain and certainly not if you are not confident or trust your self ..

take care - you will be driving soon, don't worry

    good night - big hug

Been driving since 6wks have a wee sports car and getting in and out is still not easy. So been driving our family car an Audi estate and have been fine except the seats have higher sides so it presses on my wound and thigh of operated leg. Not actually painful just uncomfortable.

I've been doing short drives for 2 weeks but have just done tow 40 miles ones. I'm nearly 9 weeks.

I sit on a cushion for extra comfort and it raises you a bit.

I have got an automatic but since its my right one that's been replaced I am having to use it.

Before my first drive I started up and made sure I could push the break quickly and hard without any ill effects as the surgeon said I could drive providing I could do an emergency stop.

I had a bit of uncomfortablness in the groin but not a lot and a bit of stiffness after the long drive but otherwise ok.

One thing - I make sure I get in by sitting facing out and then turning swinging both legs in together if possible.
