Driving Automatic Car

2 wks post Left Tkr. Nausea abated. Not on any opiods since day 4. Walking 1500-2000 steps. Bend 110°. (Totally different from R TKR 12 months ago). Have an automatic car, right hand drive as in England. When can I expect to drive? How long for? Do I need to let car insurance company know? Last time it was wk 10 and small local trips (mainly too/from PT) but it was right knee.

i think it depends on your knee and whether you're on pain meds. I am almost 3 wks post bilateral tkr and I've been driving for a week.

    good luck

Usually they say "six weeks but you might want to check with your insurance first" . So I phoned my insurance and they said you can drive when your doctor says you are OK to drive. Nobody really wants to take responsibility for the decision. I wasn't seeing my consultant til 7 weeks after op. so I had to wait til then. Trouble is if you drive and have an accident without either your consultant or doctor saying you are ready you might not be insured if you have an accident.

That's really sage advice. Will hold off until I see the consultant in 4 wks. Thank you.
