I did drive right up to day I went in. My pain was more when I got out of car as was very stiff.
I started driving again at 5.5 weeks.
Good luck

After the THR, I had to wait until 7 weeks as my surgeon said it wasn;t the amount of force you can apply on the brake that worried him, but the speed that you can get the foot off the gas and onto the brake.

Cruise control & lift off set a little with wheel or leaned on good hip. Long drives are torture. Short ones aint much better. 3 yr after thr. Nerve damage in one hip but other is fine
Both were replaced. Before surgery it was just as hard just grined & beared it
May your thr be smooth as most are !!! you'll luv it afterward when pain is GONE 😀

Did manage driving up to op but was difficult getting in and out of car. Couldn't drive long journeys as too much pain. Had manual car or gearshift if you are not in U.K. Keep calling hospital for cancellations x

I drove right up to the hospital and my wife took the car until six weeks post op. It was a manual and I was 55.
Recently had a revision of the hip and driving six weeks after start of weight bearing age now 76.

I think it's like driving post of - if you are happy that you can do an emergency stop it's OK. I drove on mine though getting my foot on the clutch was a bit difficult. Much better now though.

Hi Pete, I found it incredibly difficult to drive pre - op, probably for the last 3 months and deteriorating, in terms of getting in and out, but had no problems with foot pedal control. I'm only little, so we realised that the seat could be heightened to the max , and as far back as it could go, so that I could put bottom in first and swivel in without having to shift my left leg too much. Once in however I had no chance of reaching the lever to bring the seat as far forward as possible. ( My inside leg is 26 inches!) Hubby to the rescue, who fashioned me what looked like a crowbar from some plumbing pipe so that I could hook the lever up. It also worked wonderfully to shut the door, which I had also opened as far as it could go. ( it could have looked like I was a careless robber however, with the bar left on the seat). I also always tried to find an end space, as often came back to the car and found it too tight to get in due to the adjacent car being too close.
