YES! An adrenaline rush. Common with anxiety. It is part of our fight or flight response. I am dealing with it right now but daily.

      Lianne,

Sadly I am experiencing it a lot recently. I think mine may be a side effect of medication I am taking but two decades ago I had this same thing just not as bad and I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder. Usually it is caused by stress or anxiety. Have you been dealing with either lately? It's a triggering of the sympathetic nervous system. Same feeling one experiences like when sky diving or faced with danger. In those situations it makes sense to experience this feeling but in our day to day lives when there is no threat it makes us very uncomfortable and increases our fears an anxiety. I describe it as my body feeling like it is endanger and afraid when there is no reason to feel that way. Deep breathing exercises helps in the moment you feel it. Of course things like yoga, meditation, chamomile tea, can help if it is not too severe.

Oh, forgot to add, sometimes I feel it in my chest or my stomach or my entire body. When it is really bad it is like a rush through my entire body and my arms and hands will tingle. A psychiatrist explained to me yrs ago that it is important to pay attention to your breathing at that time and take deep cleansing breaths, even if you are short of breath from the rush, breath in slowly through nose and out through mouth over and over til feeling is gone.

hi susan thankyou for replying when you get the drop feeling in chest do you know what bring it on its a awfull feeling

I am not always conscious of what brings it on but there is always definitely a reason. Like now I believe it is a side effect of the meds I am taking. The problem with triggering the sympathetic stress response, you can't always turn it off by willing it away. Sometimes stress reduction techniques like deep breathing, yoga, meditation, counseling, etc... can help it go away and other times it requires medication (if severe and impacting your quality of life).

Look at yourself and see if there is anything that could be causing it. Low blood sugar can trigger it (are you skipping meals?) Stress is a big cause (any events in your life that made you anxious?) If you worry a lot or feel anxious frequently that can cause it. Sometimes it can be related to a health condition like hyperthyroidism so if you feel like you have not been stressed at all recently you could go in to your doctor and get a physical and they will do a basic blood test that would show things like an issue with your thyroid. Another cause is dehydration. (how much water do you drink daily?) I have to drink 60 ounces of water a day because I am prone to dehydration and staying hydrated helps with those adrenaline rushes (drop feeling). Another things to be aware of is your thoughts before you had the feeling. Were you thinking about anything that may cause you stress? Another fix for this feeling (if not severe) is light cardio exercise.
