I would ask for steriods if your coughing up stuff you need to get well fast. Most doctors will put you on prednisone to clear up a lungs infection and will do 5 pills of 5mg the first day, then 4 the next, then 3, then 2, then 1. They usually come in a little package, if you have any leftover from anything take them! Otherwise, over the counter asprin and ibuprofen for pain, only use cough meds at night. Mucinex never seemed to work for me but you could try. Hot showers and sitting in steam seemed to help me get it out, humidifier might help. Heating pads might too. ses. Breathe deeply three or four times, then cough as much sputum up as possible. You can also tap on your chest or back to help loosen mucus from the chest walls, making it easier to expel. Have someone use a shot glass and tap on your back that helps too. You could have pneumonia so a trip to a doc might be needed if you don't get better so make sure you monitor yourself close! Drink allot of water, maybe pedi light or gateraid with electrolites will help because you need to be extra highdrated to get the mucus to thin out too. I hope you feel better, and I know how you feel i dont trust docs either!

I should state that I have a newish Dr ,Dr Sadek who is a good Dr as he actually listens to what you say but I have always been wary of Drs now more so since my Mum was given drugs she was known to be allergic to. Mum is still in hospital in and out of sleep ,so I really am wary of any new treatment from any Dr ! Even though I know my Dr is a good Dr I am still afraid to ask for help now
