Drug routine

Hello. I took my first lot of MTX at 18:30 last night, and I'm wondering when I can take the folic acid today. All I can find is that I mustn't take them on the same day. Can anyone help?

My Rheumatologist at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases in Bath, told me to take my 15mg (6 x 2.5mg) of Mtx once a week, and the Folic Acid midway between the Mtx doses. In my case I take the Mtx on a Saturday and the Folic Acid on a Wednesday. I hope that helps, but have a word with your Rheumatologist to clarify first. Good Luck!

My rheumatologist told me to take folic acid every day.  He did not say anything about skipping the day when I take methotrexate.  Has anyone else been told to take folic acid every day?  I see on this forum that most people on methotrexate have been told to either skip a day of folic acid or take it only once a week.

People take between once and 6x a week but is a big no no to take same day as MTX. Google it that should help you :-)

Thanks, Sarah.  I think that I will skip the folic acid on methotrexate day from now on. smile

That would be best. It is so hard to know what to do as we all get told different things etc!

My doc said to take it every day also. I specifically called to ask this because of what I see on here. I will try to research this on my own.

That is interesting, Kristin.  What is your methotrexate dosage?  Mine is 10 mg once a week.

I take all my drugs at night, so the following night I take my folic acid along with my other medicine's.

I am on 35mg of MTX injectable, as Dr's discovered I wasn't taking up the MTX via my stomach, Dr's wondered why I was getting no result after taking the tablets, when I should have been.
