Drunk feeling 24/7/ dizziness/heavy head for four years??

Hello all! I'm a 25 year old female that's been suffering from dizziness (not spells, but 24/7 symptoms) for four years now. Since March of 2014 to be exact. It started after a period of extreme stress in my life. I woke up one morning and felt like I had drank a ton of alcohol. It only progressed over the days until I started feeling like I was about to black out. I was rushed to the emergency room and after several tests was disgnosed with Labrynthitis...the doctor gave me antibiotics and said it would clear in a few weeks. Well for some months into it I was having all the symptoms still with tons of anxiety! I did not have insurance or money to get help at the time I had to continue to work and go to college...over time i stopped having as much anxiety but the drunk/surreal feelings and dizzy never went away completely. Its always there. Here lately the anxiety and dizziness has sparked up again I'm thinking due to a pretty bad argument I had with my bf a couple weeks ago. I feel giddy and dizzy I can't concentrate...I just feel like everything around me isnt real and I'm drunk all the time. No other way to explain it. I'm in a position now to where I can go to the doc but I dont even know where to start? What questions should I ask? What specialist should I see? Any advice would help. I really want to pin down if this illness is vestibular migraine or vestibular neuritis or something like that. Anyone with similar experience PLEASE let me know! Thanks smile

you could check if an ENT again or you might want to consider your neck as the issue. Google C1 neck and dizzy and see what you get. My C1 and C2 are out of place and I need to go to a cervical chiropractor. Not a regular chiropractor but one that specializes in the cervical area for your C1 and C2.

Request a VNG and VEMP test either from your GP or from an ENT specialist. Those are good test for vestibular function.

Hello, I'm a 36 yr old mom of 2, and was told I had labs in march of this yr following a viral cold. Was giving bentahistamine and told a few weeks would go away. I had a small bout of it last yr following heavy stress. But it went away. I have a little bit of spinal stenosis in my neck which was picked up on mri, and was going to physio for it last yr and it helped. All symptoms went away, but came back I'm march.

So I dot think it was labs, cuz it was same as last yr.

I've had ct, mri, full blood, eye doc x2, ENT and now currently going through VEMP testing. So far it's clear. Go bavk in oct. I'm pretty stressed all the time by nature, so trying to work on it. I've never been to the doc so many times in the past yr and diff docs that it didn't help stress at all. Everything is coming normal. They are checking me for auto immune disorder because I had something g faint picked up in blood. I had also seen a Neuro.

Funny thing is, my blood work from doc didn't pick anything up, but the neuro orders diff blood work. So just because your doc does nt see anything, diff specialist, do diff things. So stupid.

So now I have to be tested every 6 months to keep eye on it. Try going to a naturopathic doctor, as they run blood tests too but they order more. It can get pricey, but its crazy what happens when you cough up some cash, and the answers they find.

Start off with full blood work from your doc and go from there. Sometimes b12 and thyroid can cause this crap. It's terrible, but stressing about it literally makes it worse. You can change yourself chemically from stress!!! It's crazy! But your def not alone!!

Thanks for your reply! I will be making an appointment soon to maybe finally get to the bottom of all this. Ugh. Its so hard to keep stress levels down when you have a billion things to do in life and you feel a mess. sad

You should look up vestibular specialist in your area.  ENT Vestibular specialist, Nuerologist Vestibular specialist, Nuero-ontology- look into the hospitals in your major city to see if they have a dizzy clinic too. General practitioners (PCP) don't understand this.  And regular ENT or Nuero can just dismiss you saying you will get better eventually blah blah. I have pushed and pushed and switched doctors.  I am on my 3rd diagnosis now.  And when this first started for me- I was told I would feel better in a few weeks, then it changed to a few months, then it changed to I just might be permanently disabled.  This kicked me into high gear to find doctors who cared and would try to help me.  I am on the mend now- but still have some lingering symptoms. You should get a catscan, MRI ect.  Blood work- ask a lot of questions.  I had to bring up vestibular migraines to my doctor and she said she would prescribe meds and try to treat.  This is finally working for me- but if I hadn't been on this forum, and researching vestibular issues, I would probably still be sitting here confused with brain fog, not participating in my family or not being able to work.
