This query is regarding my father's dry cough. He is 55 years old. Two months ago he started slight coughing. It increased suddenly and the doctor ordered an x-ray. Coughing caused dryness in throat and chest.

After this doctor prescribed- Augmentin 625 mg twice a day(for 10 days), Montair 10 mg before bedtime(for 21 days), Pantop D twice a day(for 21 days) and Corex dx syrup thrice a day.
The symptoms subsided within 2 days but did not disappear. The doctor ordered a non-contrast HRCT chest.
The report was:- 1. The lung parenchyma appears does not reveal significant abnormality. 2. The tracheobronchial tree is normal. 3. No significant mediastinal or hilar lymphadenopathy is seen. The axillae and supraclavicular regions are unremarkable. 4. The pleural spaces are normal. 5. The visualized bones appear unremarkable. 6. The sections through the upper abdomen do not reveal any significant abnormality. Remarks- No lung parenchymal lesion, lymphadenopathy or pleural effusion seen. (CO-RADS-I)
After completing 21 days course of all the medicines, the dry cough still persisted. The doctor prescribed Pantop 40 and Montek Lc to be taken for as long as the symptoms persist.
He is not asthmatic.
How long will it take to resolve the problem and is there anything else that can be done when the coughing increases?
