Dry eyes is this another symptom?

Since starting with the VA I have also noticed how dry other intimate parts are at times plus I have started to have dry eyes and now need to use eye wash and drops most days.  Is my whole body drying up or is this just a coincidence?

We are drying up with age. My skin and hair are defintely drier as well as my eyes. Using the computer doesn't help. Skin also gets thinner.

    Hello Linda

Dry eyes are really painful at times and I also use false tears which do help. I have recently had a burning really red rash all over one side of my face and neck. Have been told its an allergy with secondary skin infection and prescribed anti histermines and anti biotics . The burning has stopped now but skin on my face and neck and around my eyes is so dry it hurts. I am still not convinced with diagnosis and believe its all connected to LS but please God let that not be so because couldnt cope with this flaring up as it does with LS .

Hi I'm having the same problem with the dry eyes bit streaming eyes when their is a wind. Plus dry mouth, I know drink a pint of water a night sipping every few hours! I feel like the whole menopause has been underplayed by Dr's to prevent women seeking help :-(

Actually, Tracy, I think it's the other way around, at least in the US. When I first went into menoapuse my gyno wanted to put me on hormones right away although my symptoms were minor. At that time the thinking seemed to be that there was something wrong or unnatural with your body ageing. The claims were hormones would prevent just about every malady associated with getting old. The results of a large nurses' study was proving just the opposite (hormones were causing serious problems) and that's when the shift against HRT took place.

Maybe this generation of doctors just are not used to these complaints. I certainly had never heard of them before. Maybe it's a matter of the medical establishment catching up. The laser treatment that has been mentioned here is certainly new to me re the VA and sounds promising. Re drying skin, etc I'm not sure what can be done other than oils, lotions and hydration. Men have the same problems, but as they were "oilier" to begin with they aren't bothered as much. You might try alternative medicine. They definitely have a different approach.

Hi beverly you may well be right about it being the opposite way round here too in the past as my mother is still taking hrt 35 year's after her hysterectomy at 40. Hrt wasn't considered to be as harmful back then without the knowledge available now. Whereas I am 50 and finding a reluctantance to prescribe leaving a gap which Drs haven't yet been able to fill with an alternative. I have dabbled with natural medicines but not to much effect so far. I'm not gently working my way the full on menopause due to my ovaries being removed so I feel like I've thrown in without a paddle. If I didn't have severe VA I'm sure alternative therapies would be more helpful. :-)

I'm definitely going to look into the Mona Lisa treatment if it's effective.
