Dry, irritable penis glands (not balanitis/thrush)

Hi,

I've had a recurring problem with irritable and dry feeling on the head of my penis. My doctor took a swab from the area a few weeks ago and the test came back negative for everything, but there IS something wrong.

I have to peel back my foreskin, which I didn't have to do when healthy down there and I find myself scratching more too.

l've tried two different brands of Canesten cream, two different brands of Daktarin, Flucanozole and Aquaphor balm and it's the same story, use it for a few weeks, irritation subsides, stop using, comes back two days later the same as before.

What is actually wrong? How do I get rid of the discomfort for good?

    Hi ryan,

    1. Can you post a photo of the area in question?
    2. Do you suffer from any skin conditions (e.g. eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis)?

      Hi,

I don't have any skin conditions, never have and I'm not sexually active, though I did break some skin on my glans using a "masturbatory aid" the discomfort started a couple of days later.

I know this can cause irritation but can it also cause dryness? Would Aloe Vera help?

      Thanks.

You may well have diagnosed the problem yourself! It's probably a friction burn and the skin is simply recovering from the injury. Take things easy, moisturise the area and allow it to heal. The so-called "aid" should be retired.

Yeah, I threw it out after the first use. My GP thought it was Thrush so I got obsessed with that for a while.

Do you think a friction burn like this would also cause the general penis "dryness"? Like how when you cut your lip, the whole area is irritated?

Genital dryness can be caused by many things, including excessive washing or applying strong chemicals to the skin. As I said, let time and mother nature help settle the problem.

In addition to Adhari's questions: are you regularly sexually active at the moment, if so condoms, or most often not, or not at all?
