Dry mouth from Alprazolam

Hello. I have GAD and panic disorder and currently on Alprazolam 250mcg twice a day and suffering from extremely dry lips. I read that it's a side effect. I put on Blistex and petroleum jelly round the clock but it does not go away. Anyone experienced the same? Any tips? Thank you in advance!

The cold dry air of winter does not help that’s for sure. Make sure you are not licking your lips. Also, if you have a humidifier that would be great to put moisture in the air. drink plenty of water to stay hydrated. If it gets really bad doctors can prescribe something to increase saliva production.

Thank you! Does this ever go away on its own though? While on meds, I mean.

Hello Selene, so sorry you are going through GAD, been there too. I dealt with a similar prescription of Alprazolam and the dry lips was one of the first side effects I experienced and was told it's totally normal. As the other kind person said drink plenty of water, don't bite or lick your lips and try a humidifier. Also take care of what you eat, avoid irritating stuff like citric flavors. Try to use a lip balm with sun protection factor, because sun can make it worst, even if it's cold outside. I hope it gets better soon.

      Thank you! That's very reassuring.
