Dry raw skin on one finger - reoccuring

I have had this for a couple of years now, and it's just on my right hand index finger. It always starts the same with a tiny white dot that then breaks open (dry) and slowly creeps across the whole finger. It gets to a point where it is raw and sore. it used to come and go, but this time it has persisted for a number of weeks. It also started to ever so slightly appear on my thumb now and the left index finger. Photo attached of today. Anyone any idea what this and what to do about it?!image

It may be something like dermatitis and on hands its usually caused by irritants like chemicals from things like washing up liquid or detergent. Do you wear rubber gloves for doing these sort of things? Do you use hand cream especially at night? There are several things that start like this but its worth trying the gloves and hand cream to see if they help.

Does it make sense that it's only one finger? I'll happily try gloves for cleaning and dishes, though - aside from dishes - i don't get in contact with chemicals much at all! thank you so much for you reply 😃
