Dry socket how long does it last

Posted , 4 users are following.

I had a lower left wisdom tooth extracted 9 days ago. I don't smoke followed dentist advice yet got an infection and dry socket. I have had it packed 3 times with dissolvable dressing and I'm still in pain. I am finishing second course of antibiotics yet still in pain. The socket hole does look smaller however I'm taking 60mg codeine 4 x day and can still feel pain. Anyone suffered dry socket and how long does it last. I got it 2nd day so it's been 8 days of dry socket pain. my dentist said another week !!!

hi, how come it lasted 6 weeks. what treatment and medication did you have until it healed.

the extraction itself was difficult, causing jaw trauma, I had two lots of antibiotics and and a lot of ibuprofen, my jaw was so painful I could hardly open my mouth more than 1cm.The pain from the dry socket was excruciating but it does get better in time but theres no quick fix.

I had several visits to the dentist to get the socket packed with dressing but they couldnt do anything else but just leave it to heal. Have you tried salt water rinses?

yes I'm using salt water all the time. I'm hoping it does not take 6 weeks to heal. I'm on 2nd course of antibiotics.

everyone is different as soon as it heals the pain goes! i had exposed bone as they couldnt get the root out so maybe that took longer to heal in my case. Keep going back to dentist if it continues hope you get some relief soon

The pain is due to infection. You may to brush the dry socket more often, with fluoride toothpaste.
