Dual hip replacement search for recovery info

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi all: Are there any dual hip replacement out to share what it's like to get walk again? I  mostly find one hip and wonder how different it is, worse, harder, etc? And for everyone is the toilet seat really mandatory? Any other things you didn't know before?

Thanks

Hi, I had a bilateral hip replacement just two weeks ago on the 24th September. No great problem with walking or climbing stairs. I am still finding it difficult to sleep. I have adjusted to sleeping on my back but my legs tend to seize up during the night, having to sleep in one position, so I have to get up and have a walk around then I am ok for another few hours. I didn’t get a raised toilet seat but think one would have been useful for at least the first week back home. Happy to answer any more questions you may have on bilateral,

It really depends how high your current toilet is. Mine is the older variety and I could probably manage without, but I got a special seat with arms each side which was really helpful to start with.

Okay. Thanks. That sounds like exactly the one I bought yesterday.

To get more info on dual THR you might want to check postings for bilateral hip surgery.

Congrats to all you recent and gonna be hippies!  It's been one year today since my bilateral surgery.  The Best thing I ever did.  For those of you on the fence, jump in.  I'll be turning 70 soon and thanks to the surgery I am completely pain free, joining my wife for long walks, surfing at least 3 mornings a week and I even went back to work.  All this thanks to THR.  I hope many many of you have a similar experience.

I am waiting for my second replacement in 6 weeks. My doctor won't do both at once unless it is a n emergency, for the reason that it takes double the recovering time. Both my hips were totally gone but he wanted me to have the best recovery possible. Doubles are rare. His nurse said in the 27 years she had worked for him he had done only two. I have a bedside commode which I have had for a while anyway. It is a blessing to only have to get out of bed and not have to try to get to the bathroom.

Hi. I had both done at the same time. Posterior as they say. Raised Toilet seat a definite. I didn’t have one with dudes but that would have been easier. I had wall each side and radiator to push off. A litter picker was handy too to grab things from the floor. I also got x2 foam cushions one for upstairs stool where I put make up on and downstairs for sofa and dining chair. (And in other people’s cars on a day out to shops) I had no pain from day one. Rest lots  listen to your busy when you’re tired and go for a lie down raise feet often to help with swelling. do your exercises regularly   Don’t be worried with  colour of backs of your legs after. Ask any other questions if you’re worried. I’m 14 weeks today since op. Still sleeping on my back because scars tender. ( using bio oil) good luck x
