due to have steroid + anaesthetic injection in hip for bursitis: any advice

hi

three years ago an MRI of my hips revealed trochanteric bursitis.

i put up with the pain which seemed to come and go. but now it has reached the point where the pain keeps me awake at night and limits the amount of walking i do. my GP is due to inject me with steroid and anaesthetic this week so i just wondered what to expect, if there is anyone who has had the same procedure?

thanks.

Three years ago my test showed no arthritis, and the doctor thought my problems were all muscles and tendons. However, an MRI this year showed I was a mess—advanced arthritis in both hips. Like you, I had gotten to the point where moving in bed (and pretty much everywhere else) was excruciating.

After being referred to an orthopaedic surgeon, he took and X-ray and said that there was supposed to be space between the ball and socket. Mine was all gone! I was bone on bone and barely able to walk short distances. So, I know from experience that things can change significantly in a couple of years. Do make sure your doctor has checked to see that your situation is still the same as it was three years ago. I ended up having bilaterial hip replacement using the anterior approach, which has been a godsend. My recovery nothing short of wonderful!

How long did your GP say you could expect relief from the one injection?

He didn't say but said if it wasn't better within 2 weeks to go back for another injection.

Hi,my symptoms were exactly like yours.I had terrible sleepless nights due to the pain but I had the steroid injection 2 weeks ago and have noticed a great improvement. I expected the injection to be painful but didn't even realise it had been given however it took 2 weeks for site of the injection to recover. it was bruised and a lump developed under it so I still had sleepless nights. Now on week 3 I feel a great improvement but it is still uncomfortable at times.

Hi, I have been suffering with this for about a year. Had a steroid injection last October. Did have relief for about 8 weeks but symptoms returned. Good and bad days. Still see my Chiropractor on a regular basis which helps as I have a lower back problem also. Have a review in April and will request another injection. Manage to swim and do some work in the gym. Also Pilate exercises help. Good luck x
