Im the same Mary, Ive decided to go ahead with a total hip replacement too after life long issues with my hip.  Im worried about all aspects of the recovery too.  Im not even thinking about the procedure or looking into it as I dont want to be put off, its more the long recovery, like you not being able to sleep on my back, Ive been trying to just now and just cant get to sleep that way, and things like depending on others so much afterwards etc, washing, dressing,  how much pain I will be in etc etc. I think its for reasons like this Ive put it off so long. Though Ive been reading this forum for a few weeks and many seem very positive about it all.   Good luck to you

I have exactly the same worries I feel that I will wake up after the op in the middle of a nightmare, I am very anxious by nature and tend to avoid things beyond my control. It probably is the the worse worry the long slog and high dependency on others and the cabin fever ! I will continue to comment on this forum. When is your op ??

I know, I think its because often with hip replacement you have to make the choice whether to have it done or not so you sit and worry will I go for it or will I not. My hip was out of joint hip dysplasia at birth but it was missed and not fixed till I was three, so Ive always dealt with a weaker hip, but its only this last five years or so its gotten worse and worse.  Decided I was being daft putting it off as Im now bone on bone, so there is no chance of things improving.  Ive been reading this forum for a few weeks and I find all the comments very helpful.  Like you Im really worried about being stuck inside and the recovery, though Ive been taking note of what people are saying to get lthings ike a v shaped pillow which many say helps them get comfy.  Thats one of my stresses not getting slept , though it sounds like such a minor thing. Im not sure when my op is, I have my pre op assesement next Friday, and Ive been put on the waiting list Ive been told it should be within the next 3 months or so.  Im at the point where I just want it done as its all Im thinking about, so I can sympathise.

I'm the same as you... Hip dysplasia at birth, was in hospital for 3 years, and now some 35 years later, right hip due to be replaced in less than 4 weeks.... A pile of nerves.

      Good luck to you.

Hi Caron, yes I'm the same .....I've lived with hip issues all my life, and thougnt I'd just continue with always having this weak hip, but when I got  to the point that I can't walk far, can't get up steps etc I knew I was just putting off the inevitable by delaying it.  Still difficult to get my head around it, but know I've no choice.  I'm very nervous too, want it past with as it's now all I can think about.  Let me know how you get on, and good luck to  you too
