Dull pain in my shin of my operated THR

Posted , 5 users are following.

im just over 3 months down the line since my THR on my right leg , almost back to normal , BUT, I can only describe it as a tooth ache type feeling in my shin on my operated side .

its not constant but I have  seemed to of developed this dull pain.

I'm curious to whether others have had the same or simular discomfort ?

    Hi Olly,

it might have something to do with the way you walk - your gait - I felt my shin muscle and you are right, it is a nagging pain -

remember that your whole body has to get used to the new way of walking, moving etc.

I was told by PT to turn my foot out as it was turned in when I walk - this alone gave me muslce ache in the beginning- this is on operated side ...

not sure what to tell you at this point ...

are you still using a cane/stick?

    big warm hug

Many thx for your reply , my ache is not in the muscle , but strangely its seems to be in my shin bone .....it comes and goes ,but it can be quite uncomfortable , especially at night .

it has  only happened since my THR ,

      any thougts ?

there are muscles close to the tibia, or shin bone - I think this also is called shin splits and can be painful - usually cuased by heavy exercises or sports or, and this might be it, weak thigh muscles - How about your shoes? sometimes wearing inappropriate shoes can cause strain -

SInce it seems to come and go, maybe you can think back and see what you might have done differently that day ...

of course, when it feels hot and very painful, check withy your doctor -

      angel blessings

During my whole recovery (6weeks tomorrow) my calf and my shin have been more painful than the rest of me,! Also I notice my lower leg is very tender if I knock it or if anyone/ anything  else touches it. I put it down to the trauma of the op.

I have been walking a lot, probably 3-4 miles every day, but still can't lift my leg to get into the bath !!!!  Also finding different heights of chairs very tricky, now that I have moved out of my comfort zone to try and be more normal.

oh well 10 steps forward and 3 back !!!!

Hope your shin feels less painful soon. X
