Duloxetine for nerve pain and mood

Hi,I have been pescribed Duloxetine 40mg for nerve pain and mood, after taking them I noticed I had slowed down like being drained of energy,I am now concerened as my throat has swelled so have stopped taking them,I did notice my spine pain improved but I am scared to take any more because of my airways being inflamed so much.

Has anyone had a similar experience with the throat and does it go away? I have only taken 5 tablets in total as my throat was getting progressively worse each day, as soon as I stopped the tablets I noticed my throat improving quite quickly.

Thanks Des.

HI. I am currently suffering from awful symptoms having weaned myself off Duloxetine last week. I only got up to 40mg and then felt uncomfortable with possible side effects and came back down to 30mg for a few months - then down to 20 and finally was splitting content of the capsules and moved down as low as a few little balls and came off completely last Thursday. I feel absolutely terrible now and am not sure what to do. I was taking it for an idiopathic small fiber neuropathy so it wasn't intended as an anti-depressant in my case. For this reason I felt it wasn't working well enough to justify the possible side effects. I am very drug intollerant though and also have rheumatic issues so it could be that these are responsible for the horrible unwellness I'm experiencing. I hope you are feeling much better now whether you kept going up or stopped. It really isn't an easy drug to get off though - this is what I've discovered anyway.

      Hello Tumtum1963,

Sorry to hear you are having trouble coming off Duloxetine,I had a severe reaction to it my GP now has this down as an allergic reation to this tablet,I however have been too scared to try anything else due to the severe side effects,I am refusing medication other than nerve blocks,I have chosen to put up with pain and low mood for now over tablets which have in the past made me feel totally out of it.Next step is possible surgery to help with the pain.I wish you all the best in reducing your medication.

Thanks Des - I have had severe allergic reactions to three drugs noq - and failed to tolerate about 15 over the past four years. I have not failed to tolerate Duloxetine - in fact it's probably been the one I've tolerated most of all. It's not the drug in itself - it's coming off it that is making me feel so very ill. I've never had withdrawal backlash like this to any other drug including steroids.
