DVT and acupuncture

Hi all

I was diagnosed with DVT starting from femoral artery in thigh 2 weeks after giving birth. Coming off warfarin in a week as 6 months

Have passed. Second scan shows whole leg still

Completely blocked. I was wondering if anyone had tried acupuncture to break up the clot, and whether it helped at all. many thanks.

Hi, sorry to hear that you had a clot after pregnancy . I had a DVT a year ago but didn't have a second scan after 6 months on warfarin. Was there a reason they scanned you again? I haven't heard of anyone having acupuncture to help break up a clot, but there are procedures they can do to help.

Thanks jane. They did the second as foot still had quite a lot of mottling. I saw the surgeon over here (vascular specialist) who said after this long there's nothing at all they can do and that I'd just have to wait to see if my body broke it up, although he said he expects there will be long term damage as it was so big. Very helpful!

    Hi Liz

not much help there then !! I have found that there is no follow up care after you finish the 6 months warfariin. All I had was a blood test 6 weeks after the warfarin leaves your system to see if you have a blood disorder, which thankfully I didnt. No one seems to take into account the trauma of what happened and the worry of it recurring. I was at the doctors a few times thinking I had another DVT but it wasn't. Get another opinion if you aren't happy. You should have that as well which might put your mind at rest. All the best.
