Hi so my aunty has developed DVT after varicose vein stripping surgery, she was told that developing DVT is rare even though we explained about our family history of blood clots. The past 2 weeks have been the worst as she cant even handle having fabric touching her leg due to the pain, the area is red swollen and hard to the touch. She went back to see 2 doctors and her specialist and they say they cant do anything about it?! File size is too bigimage

I had mine washed out with an angiojet but the treatment is not suitable for everyone and needs to be done quite soon. It was at Stoke Mandeville hospital.Otherwise there is nothing they can do other than give anticoagulants so the clot doesnt get worse and to stop others forming. You have to wait until your body naturally breaks the clot down and absorbs it but unfortunately the valves in the vein are irreparably damaged. It takes many months and she will have to wear a stocking. There is also a common condition called post thrombotic syndrome which can cause life long problems. Sorry its not good news. I am sure she will have been told to keep her leg elevated and not to stand to long. Walking is good as much as she is able.
