Dyshidrotic Eczema (pompholyx)?? Still unsure

I would like to share my experience. All my life I have dealt with sensitive skin. Certain detergents and deodorants would cause me to break out all over my body. I also suffer from hyperhidrosis. My hands, feet and arm pits sweat pretty much all the time.

About a month ago I fell and scraped my hand. My hand healed and scabbed. About a week and a half after it healed tiny bubbles that were extremely itchy appeared where the scar was starting to form. They were so itchy that I was scratching them in my sleep without even knowing until it would wake me up. Soon these tiny blisters became 4 big blisters. At first I thought my wound was infected so I went to the doctor. I was prescribed an antibiotic and was given iodine. I was told to take the antibiotic and keep iodine on it while leaving it covered for 24 hours each day.

Today is day 4 on my 5 day antibiotic. I took the gauze off to wash where the blisters were and to replace the covering. When I did I noticed new tiny blisters that were extremely itchy. I decided to look on google (not always the best idea) but when I did I came across dyshidrotic eczema. I had found some pictures online that looked similar to what was on my hand.

I decided to go back to the doctor today and mentioned that I did not feel I was diagnosed correctly considering more little bumps were appearing. I explained how I do have hyperhidrosis and it was confirmed that indeed it is probably dyshidrotic eczema. I was now prescribed triamcinolone ointment. I will insert pictures but I have had these blisters with more appearing for about 3 weeks now. I will take any recommendations on better ways to help clear these as fast as possible.

Hi - Don't know if this will help, but I do know what it's like to have sore, blistered hands - which several Doctors and a Dermatologist all have a different diagnosis for!

Anyway, the latest I have is Pompholyx - Which is also known as Dishydrotic Eczema - and I have been given the following treatment -

1)A potassium permanganate hand soak - they give you tablets of it, which you then dissolve in hot water, and when the solution is Pink, you soak your hands for about 15 minutes.

2)Hydromol emollient - to use as a hand wash, as well as regular applications to hands to moisturise, and prevent further infection.

3)A strong steroid cream - Mometasone - this is used very thinly on the affected skin only once a day.

I am only on my 2nd day, but it does seem to be helping! See what your Doctor says.

    Good luck Jon

Hi - I'm pretty new to all this myself, and have been diagnosed with Pompholyx - dishydrotic eczema. The blisters you show on your palms do look like mine did a couple of months ago know from a bit of reading that this dishydrotic eczema is more common in people Under 40 (and I think more common in females) I am actually neither, and am waiting for a re-referral to the Dermatology service - as I have actually had 3 different diagnosises!

Anyway hope this might help - I think that I would ask your GP to refer to your local NHS Dermatology team - they can take swabs, do a biopsy if necessary etc.

    Good luck!

    Jon
