E Coli over a month ago, still occasionally vomiting

My 4 year old son started with diarrhea and occasional sickness which we assumed was a bug, but after it continued every few days for nearly two weeks, we took him to urgent care. He gave a urine sample which was clear, a blood sample which was clear, and a stool sample which was sent off. We were advised to keep him on a lactose free diet and to keep an eye on him. The doctor thought it could be a temporary post viral lactose intolerance.

He seemed to get better, but after a week or so he was sick again (not loads of vomit, just one small episode) and then was fine again. Then we received the results of the stool sample - E Coli. We spoke to the doctor at the children's assessment unit and were told that as long as he continues to get better there is no treatment. He seemed okay.

He continued to be fine in himself - eating and drinking as normal (with a dairy free diet). We are now 5 weeks since the symptoms began and he has been sick again today. I was just wondering if anybody knows anything about children taking a long time to rid their bodies of the bug? The last time he was sick was 8 days ago so it's not every day, or even every few days.

Just feeling a little puzzled by it all and want him to be okay.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
