Has anyone got an intolerance to E numbers?
I have no idea what has been causing my ongoing issues for almost 6 years now and beginning to wonder if it could be an E number. just can't figure it out!
thanks...

You can't just say "E numbers" - they are just shorthand for various substances and some are natural - vit C, saffron, turmeric and paprika being just some.

The obvious approach is to try an exclusion diet - there are a few foods that don't normally cause problems and then you add one thing at a time until the symptoms return. That is hard work - the place to start is to keep a food diary and to cook from scratch. Buying raw foods and cooking them means you know exactly what you are eating, keeping the diary means you can make associations.
My main problem is wheat - not gluten, just something in the structure of modern commercialised wheat starch. I can eat spelt and kamut - also wheats but different in structure. Another very intermittent allergic reaction was food-associated, probably red wine but not all red wines. The immunologist said it was unlikely we'd ever work out exactly what it was and to take antihistamine tablets if I did drink red wine! I know which reds I can drink, I usually drink white wine and rarely have a problem now. But if I do feel it happening in the middle of the night (always then) it stops in its tracks with a couple of loratidine tablets. So I always keep them handy...

As Eileen says the E number (standing for Europe) is a huge list of additives (over 300) that have been shown to be safe when added to our food. For example vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is E300.
