Ear blockage causing vertigo!!! Help!!!

Posted , 4 users are following.

Last week my left ear randomly sounded muffled and dizziness was quick to follow. I've been dizzy ever since and I still haven't gotten my ear to pop. My pcp says my tubes aren't working right and put me on amoxicillin and a decongestant. I didn't get a ride to the Dr til Thursday this started Monday night and I got my antibiotics Friday and immediately took them I got the decongestant yesterday (Tuesday) a week later. What can I do to get this fixed I have two kids and I really need to get better!!!!!!

I'm sorry Lillian. It could take some time for the medication to work. Unfortunately the ears are a sensitive thing to diagnose and fix. My right ear seems to be permanently clogged and I have some tinnitus issues as well. Keep posting here for support. It's very frustrating I know. Good luck.

Hello Lillian,  I take it you're in the US.  I'm in England and have suffered Eustachian Tube Dysfunction for years and years.  If after finishing the antibiotics and your ears are still blocked ask your doctor to prescribe Prednisolone steroid tablets....only thing that works for me when mine get really bad.  You may only need one course.  In April I had to have a 20 reducing course of Prednisolone a I couldn't stand them being blocked for so long.  Blocked ears can cause dizziness, but check out with the doctor you don't have a virus that caused Mineres disease (sorry I think I've spelt that incorrectly) he will know what you mean.  He can prescribe tablets to help with the vertigo.  You could also ask him for Flixonase Nasal Spray, that helps too. So strange how ETD starts.  I think mine is due to suffering Sinusitis, Rhinitis and Allergies.

Let me know how you get on.

Hi Lillian.  Your PCP is probably well qualified but you should still see an ENT doctor as soon as possible.  They will tell you what is causing the muffled sound and vertigo.  You will probably undergo a hearing test (audiogram) to rule out some possibilities.  Normally muffled sounds and vertigo are caused by fluid/inflammation in the middle or inner ear.  You need to find out what is causing the fluid/inflammation, etc.....it could simply be allergies  This is the specialty of ENT.  Most likely your problems are temporary and you will be fine with the right treatment.

Good luck....let us know what you find out.
