Ear clicking/popping

Ever since I took my first trip on a plane and learned how popped my ears it has been a constant thing I do. Some days I may not do it but most days I find myself popping and popping and popping until I feel actual anger towards myself for doing so. I have not been diagnosed with OCD or anything like it but I’m starting to think I have it. The feeling of uneven pressure that never balances out from right to left ear invaded my day. I can pop them by breathing in or out of my nose and opening my mouth but am constantly teased by the fact that they pop everytime I swallow whether it’s while eating or just swallowing saliva. I’ve read about childhood ear infections and the tubes in your ears being affected by them. I even found a forum of people with the same condition but not much on how to treat it or if it’s even been studied/named. I hope someone can help or at least guide me in the direction of help, whether it’s physical or psychological. Thank you

I had the same issue.. I went on a plane for the first time when I was 10 years old and my ears have popped and crackled every since when I yawn, swallow, sneeze or cough. November 2017 (10 months ago) I started to get ear ache in my right ear and July this year it started in my left ear. It started to effect my mental health, my sleep and my hearing. My doctors were useless so referred me to a specialist. Recently had an MRI scan which came back fine however, symptoms are due to my Eustachian tube being blocked. One of the symptoms of this is popping/crackled sounds in ears. They have prescribed me Dymista Nasal Spray and Cetirizine Hydrochloride (Antihistamines) for 3-4 months. They will assess me again after in 3-4 months time and might need to have surgery on my ears if my symptoms don’t improve.

Hope this helps and check out the following link:
