Ear infection after syringe

Hey all,

Okay so last week around Monday, my ear was fully blocked from wax and on that Thursday I got it flushed out using a syringe and warm water. According to the nurse, it all came out but even directly after the fact it got washed out my right ear still sounded muffled and hard to ear, I suspected it was water and waited a few days. Around Sunday, is when I started getting really bad pain and I instantly suspected an ear infection, went to the doctor on Tuesday and yep, she said it was an Outer Ear Infection because of swelling in the ear and prescribed my antibiotics I've been using that ever since but my ear is still blocked and I've been trying to pop my ears by holding my nose and exhaling I can hear a lot of crackling but after a while it just starts to hurt if I try to continue. The doctor did say something about fluid being behind the eardrum when I asked her about the hearing loss. If true, how do I get rid of this fluid cause it's getting extremely annoying?

Thanks!

I had water behind the eardrum once.  The GP told me to chew gum.  I was not impressed but gave it a go and it worked!  I suppose the jaw action works the liquid out somehow so keep pretend chewing if you haven't got any gum - it might work.  Good luck.
