Ear problem - MRI Scan sick with worry

Hello,
I'm actually writing for my dad, hes had ear problems for months, extreme pain on one side and the constant feel of fullness in one ear, he went to the doctors and they prescriped ear drops, recommended oils etc but nothing worked.
He went to a private clinic to have it drained/ wax removal - but he kept going back as the sensation was still there- the woman said they couldn't treat him as there was nothing there.
He then went back to the doctors and got referred to the hospital, the hospital now has referred him for an MRI scan.
I'm looking to hear from people who suffered the same symptoms and what the diagnosis is?
I'm in my early thirties and have lost my brother and my mum and hes all i have left.
With my family history any close family member ive had as soon as theyve had an MRI is bad news, i stupidly googled and the first thing i saw was Tumours, cancer etc.
So im just desperately reaching out to get some reassurance that it could be other things as i dont know what i'd do if i lost him too.
Please reply if you can, thanks!

I know it's scary. I've had inner ear issues my whole life. I'm 40 years old. I have the constant feel of fullness on my right side for as long as I can remember. I also have otosclerosis in both ears due to so many infections as a kid. Does your father have a history of infections?
I know it doesn't help to say this, but there can be so many factors here. Simple eustachian tube dysfunction is a huge factor. Inner ear infections and fluid that can't be seen by simply looking in the ear. What other symptoms are there? Is he dizzy, vertigo? Dizziness is MY issue and it's no fun. Seek out a solid ENT doctor and if this doctor was an ENT, seek a second opinion. It's good he is getting MRI. I'll be curious of the results.
Hang in there, I'm sure you'll find answers soon and I feel that his symptoms will be more than treatable.

Hi,
I have similar symptoms and a similar experience.
It started off in October 2017 in my right ear and then started getting the symptoms 8 months later in my left ear.
My symptoms were ear pain, fullness of ears, muffled hearing, dizziness and feeling off balance. I also hear a popping and crackling sound in my ears and suffer with tinnitus.
ENT specialist said everything was normal but it could be ETD and only option was to have grommet surgery. So I had the surgery and the symptoms came back after 2 weeks. Went back to specialist who said there was nothing they could do but to take painkillers. I went to my GP who offered me anti depressants to help with my symptoms. I took them as I was desperate and they helped. I was offered them before I was offered the surgery and I wish I had taken them. They stopped working after about 8 months.
I researched online for ages and came across articles about TTTS tonic sensor tympanic syndrome which is an anxiety based condition and can cause tinnitus. It says magnesium supplements can help so I took them and they have. I do still get some symptoms mostly pain but its manageable and its not constant.
My GP said she would give me a referral to a private hospital but its expensive. I am still considering this.
If you havent done so already, maybe go back to your GP and see if they give you a private referral. I was told that if its not on the NHS website, specialists at normal hospitals cant diagnose you with it. Be persistent with them and dont let them fob you off.
Hope this helps
