Ear problem - side effect of taking Sertraline?

Posted , 3 users are following.

I have been taking 100mg of Sertraline for the last 3 months and have been experiencing the most peculiar blocked left ear, it sounds like wind is rushing through it and I can hear   the blood rushing through it!! I have been to my doctor twice about it and she can see no underlying infection or blockage. I was online looking up information about side effects and a few people had complained about the same sensation in there ear.  Has anyone heard of this? Any information greatly appreciated.

Sounds like tinnitus. I got this after two months on Sertraline. It’s now there all the time even though I have stopped taking the med. but I am having terrible withdrawal symptoms.

It does seem that you have tinnitus, it can be one of the many side effects of setraline.  Sert is not supposed to be ototoxic but can cause this effect. It has made my existing T much worse but I can’t come off it as I had a complete breakdown. Your brain will probably start to screen it out but this can take time. It’s a very distressing symptom as I know.

There is a support forum called tinnitus talk on line and it can give you more information and support.

      Hi Eve,

Thank you for replying. I will have a look at the forum you suggested. I don't want to come off it either as it is the only SSRI that has worked to easy the symptoms of PMDD, which has been destroying my quality of life for years!

      Kind regards

Stay on Sert then because it’s very likely that T will ease off and fade out. Bodies that don’t play nicely 😢
