Ear problems for over two years.

Hello everyone. I have been suffering with ear problems for about two years now. This might be long, so bare with me. I have had a severe skin issue all my life, so my new doctor decided I should try this medication that almost killed me years ago (I know great doctor!) So I got ill for two days on it. I came off of it and noticed my ears started itching like crazy. I got thrush in the left ear, and the right ear was puss filled. I then had re occurring ear infections (the left ear specifically) My right ear is OK. I then noticed I had really bad tinnitus, like a drowning, ringing noise. So over the course of two years I get put on various sprays, drops, oils. I have two hearing tests which come back fine, my hearing is amazing. I already knew that though! I saw two ENT specialists who basically wouldn't really listen to me at all. I had a scope done twice, they couldn't see anything, said my ears and nose were fine. I feel like I'm loosing my mind, I know something is wrong with me, yet these doctors cant find out whats wrong. Some seem like they cant be bothered. My own GP is very nice and encourages me to look stuff up online. He couldn't really think what was wrong with me, except maybe anxiety. Just so you know I work in therapy, meditation, so I'm a very chill person these days. It's NOT anxiety. I know there is something going on because the symptoms keep getting worse! So what are the symptoms? Well it started off with ear infections, then they went away, and I was left with tinnitus. The tinnitus actually cleared up slightly, but then out of nowhere I started getting stabbings pains in my left ear, sort of like a toothache, but in my ear. I also have a "fullness" feeling, like I can hear fine, but it feels weird, maybe not as open as the other ear. When I hold my nose that ear doesn't pop, the other does though. When I do anything strenuous it feels like pressure builds up in that ear, and I feel all dizzy. Then over the past five months maybe, I started getting this heightened sound. Like everyone talking, noises made, drive me mad. I cover my ear as its too loud. The tinnitus has gotten louder again now too. So I'm trying to get a doctor appointment again. He refuses to give me any sort of scans because of Radiation, but I want to know what's wrong with me. I had some ideas about what It could be, like eustachian tube dysfunction (at first) , but now maybe Hyperacusis (the heightened sound..). Whatever it is, they can't visually see it.

Hi Crystal, you might want to read up on a condition called Superior Canal Dehiscence (SCDS). This condition would explain several of your symptoms but is not very common. Ear fullness, dizziness, hyperacusis.  Do you notice if your voice sounds louder than normal usually in one ear more than the other.

Thanks for the response smile I just looked it up. It does describe some of the symptoms I have yes, and it would explain why the doctors cant really see anything visually wrong with my ears. I forgot to mention my eye sight has been a bit odd. Someday's its blurry, or the light will hurt them. it makes sense. I have written this down for my doctor to see. Getting a scan seems like the best step, it's just getting the doctor to refer me.
