Early days with TN

My experience began about 5 months ago when I persuaded my dentist to remove first one and then two back teeth in an attempt to get rid of the excruciating pain. Every time I went back she tried to convince me there was nothing wrong with my teeth but I insisted on removal of two teeth and replacement of two large fillings. After three months and several teeth less I went to my GP who diagnosed TN . After only 3 tablets of carbamazepine I was pain free and remained so for 5 weeks until I caught flu and symptoms returned. Symptoms had changed from acute short bursts of pain to almost constant less painful ache all around my right eye. I'm currently trying to titrate to the correct dosage and am currently taking 3 x 200mg which is helping but suffering from some side effects. Anyone experience similar?

I had terrible problems with the drug you are on, I ended up trying 4 different ones and having problems with them all, and sadly still suffering the pain whilst taking them, I had brain surgery late last year and unfortunately the symptoms have come back in the last 10 days, my GP wants me to try the drugs again but to be honest I am to scared, I truly feel for you and understand what you are going through

rugbyknocker. 600mg sorry I wish, 1600 - 2000mg Tegretol plus a good helping of Gabapentin. The tow make me dizzy and double focussed but anything is better than the pain. I self regulate to my doctots consternation but as I explained its not his pain its mine and I will deal with the best I can. All the best shanara[/quote:5124b07a07]

Hi rugbyknocker/tracey, Welcome to the TN club. I wish I could only take 600mg, at the moment after some 15 years I'm on 1600-2000mg of Tegretol plus a good helping of Gabapentin. I am now 62 and had this regulated for 12 years but over the past couple the pain has increased therefore so has my pill intake. Forget what the doctor told you, it's not his pain he is not suffering, in the main they have no idea what it feels like. In my case it's my pain and I will take whatever steps are necessary to dull the pain and live a relatively normal life.
