Over the past 8 months, I've gone from 20mg (10 and 10) to 9mg currently (reducing 1mg/mth).
Without changing the 11mg dose you're on, it seems to me it would be worth trying a different split such as 6 morning and 5 evenings, or 7 and 4. Still best to make any changes on the recommendation of a good rheumie.
I still experience some stiffness when I first wake up in the morning until I do a series of exercises.

If you decide to split the dose, to have an effect on morning stiffness pills have to be taken as late as possible. If you are using non-coated pills try to take them just before going to sleep. When I took my split dose, I was taking it between midnight and 1AM. It takes 2-3 hours for pred to get into blood stream and cytokines ( the stuff that causes inflammation) is released at 4-4:30 AM . YOu want pred to be ready to prevent inflammation.

Why not add to the 1mg and take from the morning dose until you find the mix that works?

Hi Carlene, I played around splitting my dosage and settled on 1/4 -1/3 at bedtime. I had the same problem stiffness and pain first thing in the morning. Splitting solved the problem. Good luck on the rest of your PMR journey stay active, positive with a smile. 🙂

Hi Carlene,
I had the same problem, early morning stiffness, until I did what Nick recommended. I take my pred, between midnight and two am. No problems now with morning stiffness.
