For anyone just starting out, do you find about 30 minutes after you eat that all your head symptoms go haywire?

Hi brian, you have brought up a very important topic on the relationship between food and anxiety which for many years I've experienced and suspected and read about. I would always find when I stopped for dinner in work, and would eat the same food every day consisting of bread sandwich, crisps and chocolate, that about 30 minutes later I would feel a rush of anxiety symptoms and distress.

When you eat food you release histamine which can cause unpleasant symptoms similar to allergies which I also suffer from, and I'm also interested in the link between allergies and anxiety. I always feel a lot better in myself when I take antihistamines, though I don't like to take them long term for side effect reasons. Citalopram is supposed to have antihistamine qualities to it and that may be why it's anti anxiety effects are maybe better than other SSRIS. Just a theory. That's why I encourage people to look at their diet as well as other things and stay away from complex carbs like bread, sweets ,sugar, cakes and biscuits.,and eat oats, wholegrain, fruit and vegetables, and more healthy foods. Blood sugar levels also play an important part,so take a good look at what you're eating and the heightened anxiety you will get from taking the Citalopram will also make those effects more pronounced, that's why you are noticing it more at this moment.
