Eating after gallbladder removal and how to treat symptoms

I'm 7 weeks post op now. I've been doing well and trying to introduce new foods into my diet with only one major mishap with pork 3-weeks ago.

yesterday I decided to eat some cottage cheese, low fat. Ive had a bad reaction with alot of stomach cramps and diarrhoea (now yellow water) for the past 12 hours.

I know we're all different and some people are fortunate to be able to eat anything while others battle to eat anything at all. there's no 'one size fits all' here.

My question is this: when you have a bad reaction to food, how do you treat your symptoms? for me the worst symptom is the constant tummy ache which moves around so no specific area.

I've tried Buscopan which didnt help. I'm drinking Chamomile tea.

I use a heat pad which brings some relief. I took an Ativan (Lorazepam) last night which at least helped me sleep a bit. I have something called Librax which is for IBS, anyone tried it?

    I've never heard of Librax.

I would try COLPERMIN. You can buy them over the counter at a Chemist and if you find they work you can get them on prescription.

I also had gallbladder removed a few years ago.

I also have diverticulitis and I think I have IBS though I have not been officially diagnosed with it.

    Hope this helps.

Take care and keep in touch

Thank you. I dont know if colpermin is available here (in South Africa). Because I have a history of IBS I've tried most of these remedies. Mebeverine, Bevispas, Buscopan, none of them work for me. Librax is a combination of an antispasmodic and an anti anxiety. I was given it when I had anxiety aggravated IBS.

I would love to hear what other people do when they eat the wrong food.

Apart from the heat pad I don't know what else I can try. Ive had tummy ache for 24 hours now.

After 2 days of pain I felt better yesterday. I couldn't find anything to help relieve pain except a heat pad and very careful eating.

But today I feel exhausted, just like in the first week after surgery.

I thought it was lack of food, so ate scrambled egg and avocado. it didnt help with the exhaustion but I then had awful nausea followed by vomiting.

So now I'm in bed. I don't know what else to do.

I'm so disappointed because I was doing really well and can't understand why I seem to have taken a step backwards.

I just wish someone could explain because it makes a person anxious not knowing what to expect.

hi becky. i just wanted to check in and see how you were doing. i think we had our surgery about the same time. i had mine july 9th. i had been doing great. eating anything i wanted with no adverse reactions. all of a sudden a few days ago i started having sporadic diarrhea, tummy pain, gurgling etc. i am hoping this is par for the course.

same for me. I had a few very good weeks, then ate something wrong which triggered all sorts of digestive issues. Now I'm up and down. I have a few good days followed by an eruption of diarrhoea and tummy ache. I'm going to be extra careful with my diet for a while and see if I can get back to where I was.

I joined the Facebook page and I see a lot of people suggest raking digestive enzymes or ox bile or something called Tudca to help with digesting fat. I'm wondering if I need something like that.

thanks becky. i think thats what happened to me also. i ate something that didn't agree and it threw everything out of whack. i guess i will go back to bland and start introducing slowly again and see what happens. Glad to know im not alone!

Thank you. so you're just a few weeks ahead of me post op.

I've been eating all the things you mentioned. I researched what foods contain digestive enzymes and am trying to eat those too.

I find the same with buscopan but dont know what else to take.. I have Librax but it mainly just puts me to sleep, which is fine at night time 😁

I know I'm probably looking at a long recovery time as my stomach was so fragile before the surgery.

And then I read these posts from.people who eat pizza and fish and chips the next day! mow their lawn the next day!! I feel useless.

Thanks for the reply. I'll keep on eating right and won't bother to buy the digestive enzymes. I see somebody has suggested ox bile. I'm willing to try it if it works.
